Wakoola Wine Corner
Submitted by lyn on October 26 - 03:39Harvest season in the vineyards of north Georgia is coming to an end, but the time to enjoy wine has just begun. There are many varieties of Georgia Wines to discover and to enjoy when celebrating the autumn season and the approaching holidays. Wine makes an excellent gift. It is timeless, classic, tasteful, and works for almost any occasion. Presented to the host of any party, wine is a thoughtful way to show your gratitude and help Georgia vineyards.
Georgia is known as the Peach State, but more and more people are beginning to discover the fine wines produced by the vineyards and wineries of north Georgia. These wines are gaining national recognition and fueling the emergence of this area as a prominent wine region. The mountains in north Georgia have a delightful combination of the perfect terrain, soil, drainage, and elevation necessary for vineyards like Wolf Mountain, Frogtown, Three Sisters, Blackstock, Chateau Elan, Tiger Mountain and Persimmon Creek to produce their award-winning wines. The soil composition is very much like that of Italy’s Piedmont region, which produces some of the most prestigious wines in the world.
Creating a refugee for wildlife

An animal parade at Wakoola!!! Most people would agree that having a pond provides a soothing retreat at the end of a busy day. The sight and sound of water helps to relax the mind and refresh the spirit. A beautiful backyard oasis also creates a sustainable habitat for a variety of wildlife. In a time where large areas of forest are being cleared for large development, the need for wildlife habitats is on the increase.
EPA gives thumbs up to having a Pond!
Submitted by lyn on January 10 - 01:14Gary Jones from the National Assoc. of Pond Professionals (NAPP) announced in the Dec. 2008 newsletter that "Water Gardens are now part of the EPA WaterSense guidelines." This is great news for all those people that were under the impression that having a pond is a waste of our water resources. In a draft released November 2008 the EPA has released WaterSense guidelines for a "Water-Efficient Single Family New Home Specifications" to include water gardens.
